Meet Your Instructor

Born and raised in Scotland, I studied law in England and worked for a number of years in London as a media lawyer. Although my job was challenging and exciting, I knew deep down that this was not my true calling. I gave up full-time legal work in 2000 to continue part-time as a consultant and then left the UK in 2003 to settle in Provence with my husband. I had no grand plan for the future, but trusted that the universe would help me to figure out what my true calling was…

I started practising yoga in 2003 when I was expecting my first child, but it was not until 2008 that I realised its life-changing potential, as I developed a regular home practice. Being based in a tiny village in deepest, darkest Provence, yoga helped me to weather the myriad challenges of motherhood and to adapt to life in rural France - and then to take my first steps on the journey home to my true Self.

From 2009 to 2013 I travelled every week to Avignon to attend classic Hatha yoga classes taught by an ascetic French yogi who instilled a strong sense of discipline within me - and sparked my interest in yogic philosophy. Being 6ft tall and skinny with light muscles, I often found the physical yoga challenging, but I was always struck by the extraordinary transformation of my mood, energy levels and outlook on life as I drove home from the class. Put simply, I felt more alive, more in tune with life itself.

Always a keen student, I read countless books on yoga and yogic philosophy. Mindful of the advice that a kilogram of theory is worth a gram of practice, I practised daily at home, feeling the yogic fire of purpose and determination being kindled within me. The greatest revelation during this period was that the source of my own happiness and well-being was right here within me - and that that source was available on tap whenever I needed it! This was (and still is) tremendously empowering.

In 2014 I realised that my true calling was to share this transformative experience with others. In search of a gentle style of yoga that nonetheless embraces all eight ‘limbs’ or elements of yoga (as outlined by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras over 2000 years ago), I learned of the Sivananda yoga lineage, founded by Swami Sivananda in the early 20th century, and I enrolled for their teacher training program.

Since 2017 I have been teaching private and group yoga classes to both English and French locals living nearby and offering private yoga classes to English speaking tourists during the summer months.  I also offer group yoga classes in my garden during the summer. These are very popular, as practising yoga in the open air allows one to feel deeply and joyfully  connected to the experience of “Life”.
